2nd Annual U.S. Embassy Teacher Academy 2004: Re-Writing America: Multi-Ethnic Perspectives in Literature and the Media

Blaubeuren, November 18-21, 2004

Chicano writer Luis J. Rodriguez leads workshop on "Youth and Identity in Music Video, Film, and Literature."

This year’s Teacher Academy, organized by the U.S. Embassy Berlin in cooperation with the Ministerium für Kultus, Jugend und Sport des Landes Baden-Württemberg, the Department of American Studies, University of Tübingen, and the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut Tübingen (d.a.i.) will take place from November 18 (arrival) to 21 (departure), 2004.

With this conference, the U.S. Embassy is continuing a nationwide tradition in its work with teachers, the "U.S. Embassy Teacher Academy." The "Teacher Academy" differs from comparable events such as the Annual American Studies Seminar (Fachleiterkonferenz) in that it is co-organized by a German University and will take place in a different German state each year. The program involves faculty from Germany and the U.S. and thus strengthens the cooperation between German and American institutions in the area of teacher training.

Target Group

The Academy addresses secondary school teachers from all German states, in particular multipliers in the field of English and the Social Sciences. “Fachberater” and “Fachleiter” are encouraged to nominate a junior colleague for the conference. All lectures and workshops will be held in English.

The program has been developed in collaboration with Professors Bernd Engler and Horst Tonn, University of Tübingen, Dr. Ute Bechdolf, Director, d.a.i. Tübingen, and Dr. Helga Korff, Staatliches Seminar für Didaktik und Lehrerbildung (Gymnasien) Tübingen.
