Country Reports on Terrorism 2012

  • U.S. law (22 USC § 2656f​​) requires the Secretary of State to provide Congress, by April 30 of each year, a full and complete report on terrorism with regard to those countries and groups meeting criteria set forth in the legislation. This annual report is entitled Country Reports on Terrorism.

  • On April 19, 2013, Secretary Kerry submitted the 2012 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices (commonly known as the Human Rights Reports) to the U.S. Congress as required by law. This report, now in its 36th year, is available on www.State.gov and www.HumanRights.gov/. It is required by law to inform U.S. Government policymaking. It also serves as a reference for other governments, international institutions, non-governmental organizations, scholars, interested citizens, and journalists.

2011 Reports

  • July 31, 2012: Ambassador Daniel Benjamin, State Department’s Coordinator for Counterterrorism, presents the annual report on worldwide terrorism Country Reports on Terrorism 2011, which fulfills a congressional mandate and covers events and developments that occurred during the 2011 calendar year.
  • July 30, 2012: Suzan Johnson Cook, Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, 2011 International Religious Freedom Report which, for the first time, covers the calendar year and uses new technology to improve searchability.
    This congressionally mandated report reviews the status of religious freedom in 199 countries and territories. Throughout the year, our Office of International Religious Freedom, embassies, and consulates work with governments and civil society to produce a report that is comprehensive, detailed, and accurate.

  • 2011 Trafficking in Persons Report
    The 2011 Trafficking in Persons Report includes more than 180 narratives that assess governments on their efforts to combat trafficking in persons. In keeping with the language and values of the UN Trafficking Protocol, which seek to guarantee prevention, prosecution, and protection for the maximum number of victims, the United States defines trafficking in persons to include all of the conduct involved in forced labor as well as the trafficking of adults and children for commercial sexual exploitation.
