Work Permits for Spouses of E- and L- Visa Holders

Recent changes to U.S. immigration regulations allow spouses of E and L visa holders in the United States to work. The spouse must enter the U.S. on his/her E-2 or L-2 visa and submit a completed I-765 (obtainable from the Immigration and Naturalization Service) along with an application fee of $180.00. The processing time is approximately 4-5 months. Once the work permit (Notice of Approval) has been received a social security number can be obtained from the local Social Security office.
