Press Roundtable with Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations Kristen Silverberg in Berlin

Press Roundtable with Assistant Secretary of State Kristen Silverberg in Berlin
December 5, 2006.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Kristen Silverberg participated in a roundtable at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin December 5 with representatives of the German and international media to discuss a broad range of UN-related issues, such as Iran, Darfur, Syria's role in the Middle East, and UN reform. Assistant Secretary Silverberg emphasized U.S. support for the EU draft UN Security Council resolution on Iran, stressing that "an Iran with nuclear weapons would pose a major threat to international security." In addition, she pointed out American and German support for action to stop the killing in Darfur, U.S. disappointment so far with UN reform efforts, and the need for Syria to play a positive role in the Middle East.
