February 25, 2009. At the presentation of the annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said: “[H]uman progress depends on the human spirit, and this inescapable truth has never been more apparent than it is today. The challenges of this new century require us to summon the full range of human talents to move our nation and the world forward. - The National Intelligence Council’s 2025 Project: Global Trends 2025 is the fourth unclassified report prepared by the National Intelligence Council (NIC) in recent years that takes a long-term view of the future. It offers a fresh look at how key global trends might develop over the next 15 years to influence world events. The National Intelligence Council (NIC) is the Intelligence Community's (IC's) center for midterm and long-term strategic thinking.

Religious freedom is at the core of our nation, now as always. We are a country founded on the belief that all men and women are created equal, that as equals we enjoy certain universal and inalienable rights, and that among these are the right to live without oppression, to worship as we wish, and to think and speak and assemble without retribution.”
