Midterm elections are an integral part of the democratic culture in the United States. What are the basic facts and the specifics of the upcoming elections on November 7, 2006? What shifts can be expected in the Senate and in the House of Representatives? Also, midterm elections tend to be indicators of the public opinion with regards to the current government. The context of this year’s elections is one of domestic challenges: the consequences of hurricane Katrina, security issues, integration politics, religious and value debates. How do these issues affect the election campaign? How do Republicans and Democrats us refocus their agenda?
David Lublin, expert on elections and a member of the Federal Elections Project, will give you a better sense of this political process and how it reflects the current atmosphere in the United States.
