Media Conference

March 13, 2007.The U.S. Embassy in Berlin and the "Bündnis für Demokratie und Toleranz", supported by the non-profit Hertie Foundation, hosted a conference on the subject "What Do We Look Like to You?! – A Dialogue between Young People and the Media" on March 13, 2007. U.S. Ambassador Timken and Peter Altmaier, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, gave welcoming remarks. More than 200 young people, media experts and politicians attended the conference.
The conference discussed how young people perceive the image of immigrants in the media as well as the role and responsibility of the media in terms of successfully integrating minorities. It gave young students in Berlin, especially those with minority backgrounds the opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss them with media experts, and work out an action plan on how they can help to solve some of the issues.
