December 2, 2005.

Ambassador Timken participated in a brief ceremony at the Checkpoint Charlie Museum to commemorate the American soldiers who stood guard there during the years of the Berlin Wall, 1961–1989. The museum has an annual tradition of lighting a Christmas tree to remember the sacrifices made by Allied troops for the freedom of Berlin during the Cold War and, by extension, to signal hope for a future of freedom around the world. The Ambassador briefly toured the museum before turning on the tree’s lights.
