U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez visited Berlin January 24-25 to discuss issues of common concern in the transatlantic relationship with representatives of German government, trade and industry.

In addition to meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Minister of Economics and Technology Michael Glos, Secretary Gutierrez delivered remarks and participated in a discussion at an event hosted by the Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie and the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany.

Discussion topics included improved cooperation between the U.S. and the EU in the framework of the WTO and the implementation of the Initiative to Enhance Transatlantic Economic Integration and Growth announced at the June 2005 EU-U.S. Summit. While in Berlin, Secretary Gutierrez also met for discussions with economic and trade members of the German Parliament.
