Citibank Deutschland Contributes 150,000 Euros to "Windows on America" Program

November 7, 2006.

Ambassador William R. Timken, Jr. and Mrs. Sue Timken receive a donation of 150,000 Euros from Mrs. Sue Harnett, CEO of Citibank's Consumer Bank Germany, on behalf of Citibank Privatkunden AG & Co. KGaA, for the U.S. Mission to Germany's "Windows on America" program. Begun in Spring 2006, "Windows on America" is a new initiative to provide opportunities for students of immigrant backgrounds who have been traditionally underrepresented in exchange programs between the United States and Germany. Students travel to the United States for a ten-day trip, visiting American cities such as New York, Washington, DC, and Des Moines, Iowa. While on this trip, the students are exposed to all aspects of American culture, school, and life by visiting American museums and monuments, touring American high schools, and participating in home stays with American families. As a public-private partnership initiative, "Windows on America" depends on contributions from sponsors such as Citibank.

Citibank's generous contribution is part of the commemoration of the financial group's 80th anniversary in Germany. With these funds, Citibank and the U.S. Mission to Germany hope to be able to send 80 more students to the United States to explore their own "Windows on America."
