Ambassador Timken hands over Amerika Haus Building to the Governing Mayor Wowereit

Ambassador and Mrs. Timken greet Mayor Wowereit at the Amerika Haus

Ambassador and Mrs. Timken welcome Mayor Wowereit to the Amerika Haus.

As part of the U.S. Embassy's return to its historic location on Pariser Platz in late 2007, U.S. Ambassador Timken officially returned Amerika Haus to the Berlin authorities. As this was the last event hosted by the U.S. Embassy in this building, the American Ambassador handed over a check for the creation of a digital library in cooperation with the Berlin City and Regional Library to Berlin’s governing mayor, Klaus Wowereit.

For almost 50 years, Amerika Haus on Hardenbergstrasse has served as a center of American culture and information, and a place for dialogue in Berlin. Building on that legacy, the U.S. Embassy will continue with its vibrant and active public diplomacy program with its many partners in Berlin.
