With the end of the division of Europe and the rapid acceleration of globalization, the German-American relationship has changed profoundly. Formerly, mutual security concerns bound us closely together. Today the levels of connectivity that link our two countries through investment, trade, business, science, educational and cultural partnerships, as well as security responsibilities, are so broad and so deep — and often so seamless — that they are often taken for granted. That increased connectivity has contributed more than is generally recognized to the prosperity of our two countries and to the well-being of our citizens. Government, industry and individuals must take exceptional care to preserve the glue that binds Germany and the United States together. more
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Berlin
January 22-23, 2008. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited Berlin to attend a P-5+1 meeting, hosted by the German government to discuss how to convince Iran to comply with the international community’s demands regarding its nuclear program. She also attended a P-5+1 dinner on the evening of the 22nd. Secretary Rice met earlier on the 22nd with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Wednesday, January 23, in the morning, before flying on to Davos for the World Economic Forum. » Photo Gallery
