Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM)
Greg Delawie assumed the position of Deputy Chief of Mission in Germany on his arrival in Berlin on August 25, 2009.
Mr. Delawie's most recent position with the State Department has been Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs. In that position he served as the State Department’s lead on counter-piracy issues and managed programs regarding humanitarian demining, negotiation of status of forces agreements, and the State-Defense relationship. Prior to that assignment, he was Director of the Bilateral Trade Affairs office in the Bureau of Economic and Energy Affairs. He also served abroad as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, from 2004 to 2007. He has also served in Rome, Ankara, and Frankfurt. Prior to Zagreb he was Policy Coordination director of the Human Resources Bureau; in Washington he has also worked on trade with developed countries, on aviation security issues, as desk officer for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and as a Watch Officer in the Operations Center.
Mr. Delawie's foreign languages are Italian, German, Croatian, and Turkish. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, he graduated from Harvard College with a degree in economics. He is originally from San Diego, California, and is married to Vonda Delawie (also a Foreign Service Officer). They have two children.
