Ich danke Ihnen, dass Sie hier mit uns derer gedenken, die wir am 11. September 2001 auf so tragische Weise verloren haben. Es ist eine große Ehre, mit Ihnen allen hier zu sein. Wir alle verbinden mit dem 11. September verschiedene Erinnerungen und Gefühle. Für mich und für viele Amerikaner und, wie ich weiß, auch für viele von Ihnen, wird das immer der Tag sein, an dem die Menschheit sich gleichzeitig von ihrer schlechtesten und ihrer besten Seite gezeigt hat. Es war ein Tag sinnloser Gewalt und unsäglicher Verluste, aber auch ein Tag, an dem wir Zeugen von unglaublichen Heldentaten, Großzügigkeit und Mitgefühl wurden.
[Thank you all for joining us to honor the memory of those who we lost so tragically on September 11, 2001. It is a great honor to be here with all of you. We all bring a mix of emotions and memories and feelings to memories of 9/11. For me, and for many Americans, and I know for many of you, it will always be a day that represents humanity at its worst, and humanity at its best. It was a day when we experienced senseless violence and unspeakable loss, but also a day when we witnessed incredible heroism, generosity, and compassion.]

MOMENT OF SILENCE
Today, we know that the threat of violent extremism still remains. We have to be strong in the face of those who would seek to do harm to the citizens of both our countries. Our capacity to show not merely tolerance, but respect towards those who are different from us, stands in stark contrast to the lethal ideologies of those who attacked us both on that September morning nine years ago and on subsequent occasions. It is important that we not look back in anger or look forward in fear. It is important that we look around in awareness – of the dangers we face but also of the strength of our citizens, our communities, and our resolve. By coming together to honor those who lost and who gave their lives nine years ago, we renew our strength to meet challenges, old and new.
